If I Was in the U.S., I Would Be a Billionaire, Says Museveni

Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni recently spoke to the nation on the eve of its 61st anniversary, highlighting the challenges he faces in his business ventures, particularly in the dairy industry.

He expressed that the support from Ugandans for his milk business has been inconsistent, hindering his ability to become a billionaire. Comparing the situation to the US market, where he believes he would have thrived due to a larger consumer base, he emphasized the difficulties in achieving significant financial success within Uganda’s market.

President Museveni cited obstacles at border crossings with neighboring countries like Kenya, Rwanda, and Congo, preventing smooth trade of his products. These barriers have further hindered his potential for substantial wealth. He emphasized that a lack of consistent support and these trade impediments have thwarted his ambitions of reaching a billionaire status.

In addition, President Museveni criticized divisive politics in Uganda and across Africa, condemning leaders who promote tribalism, religious bias, and other cultural divisions.

He stressed that unity and a sense of a united African state have been the aspiration since the 1960s. He expressed concern over external influences attempting to foster division, drawing parallels with attempts to replicate a Latin American model in Africa, emphasizing the need to resist such influences and strive for a united continent.
